Alma Mullins

It is with great sadness that we announce Alma A. Mullins, 99, originally of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at her daughter Kay’s residence in Millersburg. The Summit, Ky., native was born May 12, 1914, the daughter of the late Forrest and Fannie “Fancy” Skaggs Keeton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Simeon Mullins, who passed away in 1978.

Mrs. Mullins attended Pine Grove Schools and was a former cook for the Rock Hill School District, where many knew her as Granny Mullins. She retired in 1984 at the age of 70. Her interests included cooking for her students, family and friends, quilting and travel. In addition to her frequent trips to Columbus and Dayton, she traveled to San Francisco, Los Angeles (where she attended the 1984 Olympics) and Lake Tahoe in California. She also visited Las Vegas, Florida, Virginia, Texas and New Mexico.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Carrie Castle and Addie Mullins; five brothers, Arthur Keeton, Danny Keeton, Obie Keeton, Russell Keeton and Herb Keeton; three sons, Robert Mullins, Paul Richard Mullins and Walter L. Mullins; two daughters, Lois Mullins and Helen Gallicchio; one grandson: Tony Gallicchio; and a son-in-law, Steve Mills.

She is survived by sons, Simeon A. (Geneva) Mullins and Carl I. (Phyllis) Mullins, of Ironton; daughters, Doris Mills and Kay Mullins, of Millersburg; daughter-in-law, Shirley Mullins, of Ironton;  and son-in-law, Don Gallicchio, of Columbus; 11 grandchildren, Donald Mullins, Kathy Wilson, Jeannie Mullins, Lois Speck, John Mullins, Carla Wilson and Sandy Davis, all of Ironton, Lori Jones, of Millersburg, Robert E. Mullins II, of Marysville, and Helen Abston and Cheryl Gallicchio, of Columbus; 19 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday  at Phillips Funeral Home the with Rev. Jesse Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery and visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.phillipsfuneralhome.net.

 

 

Evelyn Cremeens

Evelyn M. Cremeens, 98, of Willow Wood, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Heartland of Riverview in South Point. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Ridgelawn Cemetery in Mercerville with pastor Daniel Beaver officiating. Anna Rae Messer

Anna Rae Hamilton-Messer, 65 of Flatwoods, Ky., died at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland on Jan. 13, 2014. There will be a memorial service at a later date at the family’s convenience. Online condolences may be left at www.carmanfuneral.com.
