Regina Phillips

Oct. 5, 1939-Jan. 30, 2014

Regina Phillips, 74, of South Point, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Funeral services will be noon Monday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton. Regina was born Oct. 5, 1939, in Ironton, a daughter of the late Frank and Easter Crager Stanley. She was a homemaker and member of Community of Christ Church in Ironton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell J. Phillips; and two brothers, Randall and Keith Stanley. Regina is survived by one son, Mark Phillips of Huntington, W.Va.; one daughter, Melinda Queen of South Point; two grandchildren, Alison and Sara Queen; two great grandchildren, Kyndell and Kennedy Johnson; and one special sister-in-law, Helen Stanley.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home, Chesapeake. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Community Hospice of Ashland, KY. Tabitha Nelson

Aug. 4, 1921-Jan. 27, 2014

Tabitha Nelson, 92, of Ironton, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Ky.  She was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Newport News, Va., a daughter of the late Mr. Stewart and Hattie Beckwith Stewart.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Nelson and her second husband, Floyd Leon Doster.  She is survived by her children, Loretta Vinson, Larry Nelson, and Terry Nelson, all of Ironton, and Michael Davidson of Ashland, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 21 great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at New Jerusalem Christian Center, Ironton, with Bishop Kenneth Lisath officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Ironton.  Friends may call onehour prior to the service at the church.  Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, is assisting the family with services.  Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.

Kathy Sue Layman, 40, of South Point, died Thursday Jan. 30, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center, Ashland, Ky. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home by Pastor Justin Berry.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Memorial Gardens Huntington, W.Va.  Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
