SOUTH POINT — It was B.B. with a b.b.

South Point’s Brandon Boggs made a buzzer beater as his layup rolled around and into the cylinder as the horn sounded to give the South Point Pointers a 67-65 win over the Boyd County Lions on Saturday.

With the defense fixed on short-shooter Brandon Barnes, point guard John Johnson found Boggs open under the basket and threw a pass to his teammate to hit the game-winning shot.

South Point had built a double-digit lead going into the fourth quarter, but Johnson and Barnes both sat down temporarily with injuries as the Lions began a comeback.

“We’ve played really well defensively the last three games and we played well tonight,” said Pointers’ coach Chris Barnes.

“We just had a bad stretch in the fourth quarter with some personnel match-ups. But credit our guys. They hung in there and won. That’s a good win against a good team.”

Barnes scored 20 points, Johnson had 14, Marquise Foley scored 13 including a clutch 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, and Eli Ketron added 10 points for the Pointers (9-6).

Conner Gauze had 17 points to lead Boyd County (11-11). Leading scorers Tristian Burgess and Grayson Griffith were held to a combined 17 points including 11 by Burgess. Bobby Anderson added 10 points.

“Audric Harlow and Brandon did a real good job defensively on their two main offensive players,” said coach Barnes. “But everyone we had contributed in a big way. It was a good team win.”

Barnes scored eight points in the first quarter as South Point took a 15-14 lead.

The Pointers stretch the lead to 34-26 at the half and led 51-37 after three quarters.

The Lions scored 28 points in the fourth quarter before Boggs hit his game-winning shot.
