PROCTORVILLE — Talk about a trap game.

The Fairland Lady Dragons won a Division III sectional title on Saturday and were starting preparations for the district when here comes a regular season league game.

With the Ohio Valley Conference already clinched, the Lady Dragons posted a lackluster 53-39 win over the River Valley Lady Raiders Monday.

“We got the big lead and then we lost our intensity. We didn’t shoot well, but we did a decent job defensively,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

Fairland is now 18-3 overall and finishes 10-0 in the league for the third straight season.

Chandler Fulks scored 12 points and Terra Stapleton 11 to lead Fairland.

Leia Moore had 11 points for River Valley.

Fairland roared to a 19-3 lead and then coasted the rest of the game. Mackenzie Riley scored six points while Fulks and Bri Dickess had five each in the first quarter blitz.

Moore scored six points in the second quarter but Fairland outscored the Lady Raiders 11-8 to lead 30-11 at the break.

The Lady Raiders cut the deficit to 42-24 after three quarters, but Kelsey Riley and Stapleton scored four points each in the fourth quarter as Fairland won handily.

Fairland plays Huntington Ross at noon Saturday in the district semifinals at Waverly’s downtown arena.
