SOUTH POINT — This one was about pride.

South Point already had the Ohio Valley Conference title in hand, but the Pointers and Fairland Dragons met Thursday in a makeup game that served as a tune-up for the district tournament.

The two teams play in the Division III district semifinals Sunday at Ohio University. Fairland faces Southeastern at 2 p.m. and South Point battles Portsmouth at 7:15 p.m.

Shane Stevens scored 20 points including four 3-pointers to lead the Dragons to a 53-38 win. He also had five rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Tyler Campbell added 10 points and seven rebounds for Fairland (13-11, 6-4) whose starters’ playing time was very limited.

Marquise Foley scored 11 points and Brady Rickard had 10 points and five rebounds for South Point. The loss snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Pointers (15-7, 8-2) who rested their five starters.

Stevens scored six points in the first quarter as Fairland took a 13-12 lead. Foley hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Pointers.

Stevens scored six more points in the second quarter as the Dragons extended the lead to 28-20.

Campbell had six points in the third quarter to offset four points by Rickard and it was 42-34.

Stevens scored five more points in the fourth quarter as Fairland outscored South Point 11-4 to win going away.
