CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals have signed free-agent cornerback R.J. Stanford from the Dolphins, giving them a player with a lot of experience on special teams.

Stanford was Carolina’s seventh-round pick in 2010. Miami acquired him off waivers in 2012. He has appeared in 41 games in his career and has one interception.

He played in the first 13 games last season and was sixth in tackles on special teams. He missed the last three games because of an ankle injury.

Stanford became a free agent when the Dolphins decided not to make him a tender offer.

The deal with the Bengals was announced on Monday.
