Wellness plan can benefit

With the discontent and attention surrounding the new health care laws, there is certainly a place for those discussions. However, there is a problem closer to home that has not received enough attention.

The changes in health coverage’s and legislation along with the current economic climate have had an impact on the wellness within the local community.

Lawrence County currently ranks near the bottom of Ohio’s 88 counties in regard to health outcomes and health factors, according to a study from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin.

Simply put, several initiatives that have been ongoing or beginning are a good start the county needs to support if we are to continue to moving forward.

This will increase the awareness and foster an environment where long-term health is a primary focus.

Although it is an uphill battle that will not change overnight, making the plans now, providing support and personal responsibility are all key factors that will begin to move the needle in the right direction.

Regardless if one considers themselves healthy or not, all county residents should come together to enhance the overall conditions and perception from those inside and outside of the county.
