PROCTORVILLE — This really was a team win.

Fairland coach Bryan Ward played starters as well as backups as the Dragons beat the Green Bobcats 5-1 Thursday.

“Their pitcher is pretty good and we were able to score some runs and get the win. And we hit some balls really hard,” said Ward.

“We had a bunch of guys to throw and they did a good job. We got some other guys some playing time that don’t get to play that much.”

Adam Taylor — the first of four pitchers — got the win with four innings of work. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Fairland (7-5) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Kyle Sowards doubled and Trace Adkins reached on an error for a run. Dylan Murphy walked and Garrett Scheibelhood singled for a second run.

Brandon Burcham singled to load the bases and Tyler Blake singled in two runs.

The Dragons added a run in the fourth when Luke Phillips singled, stole second and scored when Adkins reached on an error.

Burcham was 2-2 as the Dragons got six hits.

Green’s Caleb Johnson took the loss. He gave up six hits, struck out 11, walked three and hit two batters.

Clay Applegate went 2-4 for Green.
