Charles Massie

Charles Thomas “Butch” Massie, 69, of Kitts Hill, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. The Kitts Hill native was born April 15, 1945, the son of the late Donald Bentley and Alice Maxine Smith Massie, and his stepfather who raised him, Charles Massie. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margaret “Jane” Sites Massie.

Butch attended Dawson-Bryant High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Sharon Baptist Church and a former cable splicer for C.T.S. He loved playing bluegrass music, guitar, harmonica and enjoyed social networking.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Don “Skeet” Bentley; an infant sister, Elizabeth Massie; and a great-grandson, Hunter Massie.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Charles Alan (Fonda Carter) Massie, of Coal Grove, Thomas Andrew (Kim) Massie, of Ashland, Ky., Jeffrey Todd (Regina) Massie, of Kitts Hill, and Steven Roy (Sheena) Massie, of Clayton, N.C.; a daughter, Lisa Jane (Jeff) Wilheim, of Kitts Hill; nine brothers, Joe (Ruth) Massie, of Lakeland, Fla., David (Arlene) Massie, of Ironton, George Massie, of Gladstone, Mo., Jimmy (Peg) Massie, Gary (Sandy) Massie, Rock (Sharon) Massie, Johnny Massie, Justin Massie, all of Kitts Hill, and Darrel (Traci) Massie, of Greenup, Ky.; a sister, Kathy (Dane McConnel) Duncan, of Pedro; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Bentley.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton with the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in Mamre Cemetery and visitation will be 1 p.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home. Donations may be made to the Huntington Area Food Bank. David Schellenger

David Allen Schellenger, 63, of South Point, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at home. He was born May 16, 1950, in Bluefield, W.Va., son of Mary Ann Schellenger, of South Point, and the late Charles Ray Schellenger. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a stepson, Michael Darby.

He was retired Army Combat Medic serving in Vietnam. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Wanda Schellenger; two stepchildren, Scarlett Whitley, of Kenova, W.Va., and Richard Darby, of Kenova, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Matthew Marcum, C.J. Whitley and Jemma-lei Whitley; two brothers, Charles R. (Susan) Schellenger, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Frank Schellenger, of South Point; one sister, Emily A. (Robert G.) Payne, of South Point; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South Point Church of Christ food pantry. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by Robert G. Payne. Proctorville VFW Post 6878 will conduct military rites. Geneva Shank

Geneva L. Hunt Shank, 89, of Chesapeake, died Friday May 2, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, W.Va. Funeral service will be noon on Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville by pastor D.L. Webb. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery in Proctorville. Delpha Bloomfield

Delpha Eileen Jenkins Bloomfield, 57, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 2, 2014. She was born Jan. 7, 1957, in Muskingum County, to the late Vint and Evelyn Jordan Jenkins. 
She married Danny Bloomfield on May 28, 1977, and God blessed their union with four children.

Delpha was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Lucille; brothers, Charles “Chalk” Jenkins and June Dale Jenkins; niece, Teresa Donley; and nephews, Joshua Hackworth and Adam Jenkins.
She is survived by her loving husband, Danny; their children, Melissa and Kenny Webb, of Ironton, Terri and Cameron Weisenburger, of Marion, Kerri and Eric Wallace, of Proctorville, and Dale and Michele Bloomfield, of Huntington W.Va.; grandchildren, Mickenzie Webb, of Ironton, Cheyenne and AJ Laber, of Pedro, Darin, Curtis, and Alyssa Weisenberger, of Marion, Angel, Anna, and Abby Wallace, of Proctorville, and Alisha, Sara and Chastity Bloomfield, of Huntington W.Va.; siblings, Barb and Gord Bailey, of Ironton, Alonzo and Goldie Jenkins, of Pedro, George and Rosetta Jenkins, of Pedro, Hazel and Jack Donley, Kennesaw, Ga., Clifford and Linda Jenkins, of Ironton, John and Mary Jenkins, of Pedro, Nancy Hall and Ron Ridgeway, of Ironton, and Judy and Donny Bailey, of Pedro; sister-in-law, Hilda Jenkins, of Pedro; many nieces and nephews; and great-great-great-nieces and nephews she loved very much. Delpha was of the Baptist faith.

Hosea Chapman

Hosea Bishop Chapman Sr., 88, of South Point, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Abbyshire Place in Bidwell. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville by minister Larry Ferguson. Visitation will be noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

 

Betty Fairchild

Betty Fairchild, 84, of Flatwoods, Ky., died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be noon until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Terry Workman

Terry Lee Workman, 61, of Huntington, W.Va., died Friday, May 2, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. There will be no service. Hall Funeral Home and Crematorium in Proctorville is in charge of arrangements.
