Redmen build momentum with 2 wins

PEDRO — The Rock Hill Redmen are hoping two wins using wood bats will splinter into three more wins.

The Redmen beat the St. Joseph Flyers 9-3 and River Valley Raiders 4-3 in a wooden bat round robin event Saturday as they prepare for three Ohio Valley Conference games this week.

The Redmen play Coal Grove on Tuesday, Chesapeake on Thursday and Fairland on Friday.

“The kids played well and they did a good job using wood bats,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.

“We have three big league games this week so hopefully this gave us some momentum.”

In the first game, Rock Hill (11-5) Rock Hill took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Aaron Dalton walked, Jonah Cox singled him to third and stole second and both scored on a hit by Jack Goodwin.

St. Joseph took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third.

Tre Neal and Jacob Clark and Hunter Pemberton all singled for a run. Clark scored on a ground out and Peyton Adkins singled home a run.

But the Redmen answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Dalton walked, Cox singled and Goodwin walked to load the bases. Jonathan Joseph singled home two runs and Jordan Hairston hit a sacrifice fly.

The Redmen added four insurance runs in the fifth.

Goodwin walked, Joseph put down a sacrifice, Hairston walked and both moved up on a wild pitch. Corey Noel then doubled in a run.

Levi Wilds walked, a balk scored a run and Chance Blankenship walked to force in a run. A wild pitch scored the final run.

Cox was 3-4 to back the pitching of Wilds who struck out five and walked one.

In the second game, Hairston picked up the win. He struck out eight, walked two and only one run was earned.

Goodwin walked, Joseph singled, they pulled off a double steal and Hairston grounded out as a run scored. Dalton doubled and came around to score on two wild pitches.

The Raiders got two runs in the top of the third, but the Redmen answered with two runs in their half of the inning.

With two outs, Joseph walked, stole second and scored on Hairston’s base hit. Hairston scored on a throwing error.
