CHESAPEAKE — The battery was full charged.

Pitcher Sami Nixon and catcher Brooke Eastham sparked the Rock Hill Redwomen to an 8-0 win over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Nixon went 3-4 at the plate and pitched a five-hitter. She struck out nine and did not walk a batter.

Eastham was 3-4 with a home run and a double as Rock Hill collected 10 hits.

“Our seniors really stepped up,” said Rock Hill coach Sammy Gue. “Sami did a good job pitching and hitting. Eastham got us going on offense, and defensively she called a great game.

“But when you get 10 hits and no errors, everyone is doing their part.”

Rock Hill (16-6, 8-2) hosts Portsmouth West at 5 p.m. Friday in the sectional tournament. Monday’s game against Symmes Valley has been cancelled.

The Redwomen took a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Eastham led off with a home run. Hannah Roach walked, Jenna Lane put down a sacrifice bunt, Lindy Simpson was safe on an error for a run and Nixon singled in the final run.

Four more runs scored in the fourth.

Anna Darby reached on an error, Nixon singled, Kaci Russell walked and Hairston had an RBI single.

A passed ball scored a run, Brooke Hanshaw walked and Eastham doubled in two runs.

The final run scored in the sixth when Russell walked, went to third on two ground outs and scored on a passed ball.
