CHESAPEAKE — The suspect in a robbery of a South Point restaurant pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Lawrence County Municipal Court on Friday.

Leroy Campbell, 28, of 1705 Township Road, Chesapeake, was charged last week with robbery after he allegedly entered the Subway restaurant in South Point on July 6, and demanded money from employees at gunpoint.

According to witnesses at the time of the robbery, the suspect allegedly fled in a black Toyota Corolla that had a loud exhaust. Investigators went to a home in Chesapeake where the residents allegedly identified Campbell from surveillance video taken at the restaurant.

On July 7, investigators went to Campbell’s home and arrested him.

“Allen was found to have a plastic toy firearm in his right pants pocket upon arrest,” according to Sheriff Jeff Lawless in a press release. “Clothing worn in both robberies was recovered as well.”

In Friday’s arraignment Campbell was assigned Mike Davenport as his public defender. He will have a pretrial on Monday in municipal court.
