Dana Diamond

Dana Lee “Frog” Diamond, 58, of Coal Grove, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born July 12, 1956, a son of the late Leonard Lee and Shirley Anne Taylor Diamond.

Frog was a graduate of Ironton High School. He was a former bricklayer for Fosbel and a self-employed contractor. He was also a former trail boss for Wayne National Forest Trail system. He loved fishing, hunting and woodworking and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Mark Diamond; paternal grandparents, Blanche Purdue Diamond and Fred F. Diamond Sr.; maternal grandparents, Mabel Newman Taylor and Ernest Taylor; and uncle, Frank Taylor.

Frog is survived by son, Steven Diamond, of Ironton; daughter, Stephanie Diamond, of Ironton; sister and brother-in-law, Tammy and Steve Breeding, of Coal Grove; nephew, Stevie Breeding, of Coal Grove; nephew, Eric Diamond and Amanda, of Ironton; three great-nieces, Brianna Diamond, Tatum Diamond and Daley King; sister-in-law, Mary Diamond, of South Point; aunt, Aggie Taylor of Ironton; and numerous cousins and friends.

Donald McFann

Donald Preston McFann, 78, of Ironton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at his residence. The Ironton native was born April 20, 1936, a son of the late Albert and Ruth Thompson McFann.

Donald was a graduate of Decatur-Washington Schools and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the 1st Infantry. He retired in 1998 after 36 years working for Dayton Malleable, Ironton Iron and CAO. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pedro and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose No. 701 in Ironton and the American Legion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mae DePriest McFann whom he married Oct. 26, 1959; daughter, Yvonne McFann; two brothers, Daniel (Danny) McFann and Richard McFann; sister, Rosemary Joseph; son-in-law, Danny R. Smith; and stepmother, Rosie Lee Elliott McFann.

He is survived by daughter, Tammie Smith, of Ironton; daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Scott Gallion, of Franklin Furnace; sister, Esther Comtois, of New Hampshire; sister, Carolyn Shepard, of Oak Hill; and five grandchildren, Leslie and Sydnie Gallion, of Franklin Furnace, and Shayla, Jackie and Harlea Smith, of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Green officiating. Burial will follow in Puckett Cemetery with military graveside rites by Ironton VFW Post 8850. Harold Gordon

Harold James Gordon Jr., 61, of Ironton, died at King’s Daughters Medical Center on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014. His wife, Mary Katherine Gardner Gordon, survives him. Arrangements are pending at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home.

 

 

Carl Vance

Carl Vance, 75, of South Point, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, in Huntington, W.Va. He was retired chief of the South Point Police Department. He is survived by his wife, Rita Ellen McGinity Vance. A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Chesapeake. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point. William White

William Darrell “B.D.” Whitt Jr., 64, of Flatwoods, Ky., died on Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods with chaplain Mike Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.
