Mary Durkin

Mary Ann Durkin, 92, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at a local health care facility. The Gallipolis native was born Dec. 20, 1921, the daughter of the late Stanley A. and Mazie Archibald Plymale. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Russell Durkin.

Mrs. Durkin was a graduate of Gallia Academy High School in Gallipolis and attended Miami University and Ohio University, where she received her bachelor’s degree. She was a former physical education teacher for the Rock Hill School District and the Ironton City School District for 20 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Central Christian Church. Mary’s joyfulness was her legacy and offering to the Lord.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Plymale; and a grandson, Joshua John Wolfe.

She is survived by a son, Richard J. (Nadine) Wolfe, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two daughters, Sally A. (Jeff) Heath, of Lexington, Ky., and Betsy A. (Rich) Mountain, of Ironton; eight grandchildren, Aaron Wolfe, Laura (Jason) Campbell, Madison (Daniel) Carey, Taylor Heath, Maria Mountain, Tommy Mountain, Greg Mountain and Cassie Mountain; and three great-grandchildren, Silas and Leah Campbell and Owen Heath Carey

Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Mound Hill Cemetery in Gallipolis with her son, Richard Wolfe, officiating. Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton is assisting the family with the arrangements. Donations may be made to Central Christian Church, 1541 S. Betty Cochran

Betty T. Cochran, 77, of Flatwoods, Ky., died on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky. Arrangements are pending at Bailey Family Funeral Home in Flatwoods.

 

 

George Hall

George Cartee Hall, 78, of Huntington, W.Va., formerly of Carter City, Ky., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Cornerstone Hospital in Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Angle Hall. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.

 

 

Helen Kates

Helen Kates, 90, of Chesapeake, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville. There will be no visitation. Bryan Blake

Bryan Daniel Blake, 28, of Proctorville, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va. Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville by pastor Jeff Black with full military honors. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery.
