HANGING ROCK — The ninth annual Kids Fun Day brought hundreds to Main Street field in Hanging Rock.

As smoke bellowed from a grill that was cooking free hot dogs and the sounds of Derailed boomed from speakers Hanging Rock Mayor Chris Davidson was jubilant.

“This is the way I like it,” he said. “We had a year or two when bad weather kept people away, but not today.”

Funded entirely by donations, Kids Fun Day is a way to show some community appreciation, Davidson said.

“It’s something for the kids in Hanging Rock and the surrounding areas to do for free,” he said. “Even if we don’t get the donations we need, me and my staff put in money to make sure this event is free regardless.”

Kids Fun Day culminated with a bicycle drawing 3:25 p.m. and Zachary Webb, 12, of Hanging Rock, said the giveaway is what keeps him coming back every year.

“I won a bike here before,” he said. “There’s nothing like the excitement when waiting for the bike drawing.”

Hayrides, inflatables and rides in the Hanging Rock police cars were offered to kids.

“This is a great thing for kids and families to do and come and enjoy a nice fall day,” Davidson said.
