Ironton powder puff

game to benefit needy

The Ironton High School annual Powder Puff benefit football game will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on Bob Lutz Field at Tanks Memorial Stadium.

Admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students. Proceeds from the game go toward Christmas food baskets for the needy.

 

Faith & Fitness to hold

2-day basketball camp

A two-day basketball camp will be held in the Faith and Fitness Center of First Baptist Church.

Camp director Chris Barnes will conduct two-hour practice sessions focusing on defensive instruction, ballhandling, shooting drills, 3-on-3 play, 3-on-2, 2-on-1 drills and 5-on-5 play with teaching.

Camp schedule is:

Girls grades 6-9 on Oct. 12 from 2-4 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 4-6 p.m.; Boys grades 6-9 on Oct. 19 from 2-4 p.m. and Oct. 20 from 4-6 p.m.

The camp includes a positive Christian message.

Fee is $25 with checks made payable to Faith and Fitness Center. A wavier must be signed the day of the camp. Early registration ensures T-shirt size.

St. Charles at Ironton

tickets on sale this week

Tickets for the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ homecoming football game Friday against Columbus St. Charles will be on sale during schools hours in the high school auto shop office and during business hours until noon Friday at Iron City Hardware.

Tickets are $6 for general admission and $3 for students and senior citizens.

 

Ironton Little League

seeks tourney champs

The Ironton National Little League is trying to compile a list of all district and/or district and state championship teams since 2000.

The league is updating the monument and signage to make sure all teams are included. Anyone with information should contact (740) 533-7416 or (740) 414-0080.

 

South Point Little League

annual elections set

The South Point National Little League will conduct its annual elections at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the little league shelter.

All members in good standing are encouraged to attend.

 

Chesapeake buddy league basketball signups set

The Chesapeake Buddy League youth basketball registrations will be held at the middle school.

Fee is $15 per child, $25 for two siblings and $30 for three or more. Youths should present a birth certificate. For more information, contact Tom Curry at (740) 867-8441.

Thursday, Oct. 2 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 9, 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 11. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 

River Cities basketball

officials class planned

The River Cities Basketball Officials Association will conduct its annual training class beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Chesapeake High School.

The class is approved by the Ohio High School Athletic Associatio and West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission.

Those who register in Ohio must first register only with the OHSAA and pay your Ohio fee by credit card. No other form of payment is accepted for the OHSAA state fee. Go to OHSAA.org and click on the “officiating” link and then click on “becoming an official.”

All other fees must be paid withing the first two class sessions.

Cost of class is $85 plus the state registration fees which are an additional $65 for Ohio and $42 for West Virginia.

Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays for approximately seven weeks. Each class is three hours for a total of 39 hours of instruction.

Instruction covers fundamentals, rules, floor coverage, positioning, game administration and game management.

Legal-ethical components relevant to officiating are also covered. Applicants will participate in officiating scrimmage games.
