In the song “Rain” by the Beatles, John Lennon penned the line, “Rain, I don’t mind.”

That’s how the St. Joseph Female Flyers felt on Tuesday as they played in a downpour but still beat the West Union Lady Dragons 9-0 in the Division III sectional soccer tournament.

“The torrential downpour didn’t slow us down any tonight,” said Female Flyers Kyle Weatherholt. “We scored eight goals in the first half and one in the second half before they stopped play due to field conditions.”

St. Joseph will host Wheelersburg at 4 p.m. Saturday in the sectional finals. The two teams split their regular season games.

Sidney Payne and Lynsey Booker scored two goals each and each had an assist to lead the Female Flyers.

Megan Riley, Ariel Porter and Kaylee Sheridan all had goals in the winning effort. Emma Sax by and Ophelia Weatherholt had two assists each and Chloe Porter had one each.

Sheridan had the lone second half goal.
