Cecil Whitley

April 28, 1924 — Dec. 1, 2014

 

Cecil Robert Whitley, 90, of South Point, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. He was born April 28, 1924, in Ashland, a son of the late Coy and Margaret Adams Whitley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dora May Stevens and Thelma Jean Reeves; and a brother, Hubert Whitley.

Cecil retired as a welder with Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 248 in Ashland. He was a lifelong member of Sunrise Church of the Nazarene, attended the Ashland Public Schools, Ashland Vocational Schools and was a U.S. Navy veteran in World War II, having been stationed on a battleship in the Pacific Theater.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Delores “Dutch” Davidson Whitley; a daughter, Delores “Pug” Sloan, of Ironton; and two grandsons, Joseph Christian (Julie) Sloan, of Fisherville, Kentucky, and their sons, Connor, Caiden and Caleb, and Matthew Raymond (Kelli) Sloan, of Ironton, and their children, Jacob, Benjamin, Nathaniel and Mattilyn Rose; and one niece, Linda Spear, of Venice, Florida.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point with the Rev. Lenny Campbell and the Rev. Gary Henry officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Chuck Austin, Tom Blake, Joe Sloan, Matt Sloan, Jacob Sloan, Jack Pemberton and Robert Davidson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Davidson and Ron Davidson. Shelly Brooks

Jan. 11, 1967 — Dec. 3, 2014

 

Michelle “Shelly” Brooks, 47, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. The Ironton native was born Jan. 11, 1967, the daughter of the late Marion and Loriana Pizzelli.

Shelly was a 1987 graduate of Ironton High School and a homemaker. She attended the Ironton City Mission Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Darren Ellswick.

She is survived by her husband, John Edward Brooks, whom she married Aug. 25, 1987; two sons, John Edward (Angela) Brooks Jr., of Ironton, and Tanner James (Megan Porter) Brooks, of Ironton; two grandchildren, Kylee Dawn Brooks and Laylah Noelle Brooks; and two brothers, Marion Pizzelli, of Columbus, and Shannon Ellswick, of Ironton. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and loving family members.

George Wise

Aug. 1, 1972-Dec. 2, 2014

 

George E. Wise, 42, of Ironton, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, the son of the late Beldin Wise II and Connie Harbolt Wise. He was born on Aug. 1, 1972.

He worked at Grandview Building Supply as a carpenter and was a member of Christ Episcopal Church Ironton.

Survivors include two sons, George W. Wise and Gage Michael Wise; three daughters, Lea Nicole Wise, Mackenzie Lynn Wise and Maggie May Wise; two grandchildren, Amelija Jean Wise and Desiree Raegan Wise; one sister, Lea Clark; and three brothers, Robert Lilly, Randy Lilly and Charlie Wise.

He was preceded by one nephew, Timmy Clark.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Sallie Schisler. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Hecla Cemetery.

 

 

Charles Matasich

Charles M. Matasich, 72, of Proctorville, died on Friday, Nov. 28, 2014. He is survived by his wife, Pat. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church, in Chesapeake. Burial will follow at Rome Cemetery in Proctorville.

 

 

Donnie Belville

Donnie Joe Belville, 75, of Proctorville, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. He is survived by his wife, Helen Marie Michaels Belville. A service will be noon-5 p.m. Saturday at his home at 217 Township Road 1107 in Proctorville. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville is assisting the family with arrangements.
