NEW BOSTON — It was the same old story for the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.

Despite a good defensive effort, the Lady Vikings failed to shoot well as they lost 53-45 to the New Boston Lady Tigers on Thursday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

The Lady Vikings (1-4, 1-3) made just 15 of 62 shots form the field for 24 percent.

“We didn’t shoot the ball well again. You can’t keep shooting that poorly and expect to win no matter how well you play defense,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Brandon Walker.

Breanna Brumfield had 13 points and 3 steals to lead the Lady Vikings.

Meranda Hayes had 10 points and 9 rebounds while Sierra Ross and Kaitlyn Payne pulled down 11 rebounds each.

Ali Hamilton scored 27 points to lead New Boston.

Hamilton had 8 points in the first quarter as New Boston took a 13-12 lead. She had 9 points in the second quarter to offset 6 points by Ross as the lead went to 30-24 at the half.

The Lady Vikings had just 8 points in the third quarter — six by Hayes — and the deficit grew to 40-32.

Symmes Valley got 9 points from Brumfield in the fourth quarter but New Boston was 9 of 16 from the line to seal the win.

Symmes Valley hosts Western on Monday.
