Panthers, Rhoades beat HSJ

CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Panthers decided to use the Rhoades most taken.

The Panthers rode Gage Rhoades’ career-high 31 points to a 63-48 win over the Huntington St. Joseph Fighting Irish on Friday.

Aaron Thompson joined Rhoades in double figures with a career-high 19 points for Chesapeake (5-0).

Deaundra Murphy scored 22 points to lead the Irish (2-1).

The Panthers took a 13-10 first quarter lead as Rhoades scored 11 of Chesapeake’s points. Murphy had 6 for the Irish.

Thompson got the hot hand in the second quarter with 7 points as the Panthers pulled away to a 30-18 halftime lead. Murphy had 6 more points for St. Joseph.

The Irish outscored the Panthers 11-10 in the third quarter to trail 40-29, but Rhoades exploded for 14 points in the fourth quarter as Chesapeake began to pull away.

Kyler Burgess had 7 points in the fourth quarter for Huntington St. Joseph.

Chesapeake hosts Gallipolis on Tuesday.
