BERLIN HILAND — If Ironton coach Doug Graham had a nickel for every layup the Lady Fighting Tigers missed on Saturday, he’d have thought he won the lottery.

Ironton couldn’t get their layups to fall and shot just 31 percent from the field in a 52-41 loss to unbeaten Convoy Crestview in the annual Classic in the Country.

The Lady Knights didn’t have that problem as they did score inside, mainly behind Emily Bauer who had a game-high 27 points. Crestview (12-0) was 19 of 42 from the field for 45 percent.

Ironton (10-4) was only 17 of 55 from the floor and a cool 3 of 15 from behind the 3-point line.

Lexie Barrier led Ironton with 15 points including a 19-footer with four minutes left in the third quarter that gave her 1,000 career points. She also had nine rebounds.

Sydney Webb scored 10 points and Cheyenne Scott added eight points for Ironton.

The Lady Tigers stayed close for most of the game despite their cold shooting.

A 3-pointer by Webb and stickback by D’Laynie Keith to being the fourth quarter got Ironton within 39-36.

But Emily Bauer made a layup and two foul shots and Kennis Mercer added a free throw as the lead quickly grew to 44-36.

Jordan Hannan scored and Barrier sank a foul shot to cut the deficit to 44-39 only to have Bauer scored four points and Mercer make another free throw for a 49-39 lead.

After leading 11-5 to end the first quarter, Crestview was up 20-10 in the second quarter when Lexi Wise, Scott and Barrier all scored to slice the Crestview lead to 20-16 at the half.

Ironton was down 26-24 after Barrier’s milestone basket, but two layups by Bauer got the lead to 30-24.

A runner by Webb left Ironton down 34-31 but Paige Motyka hit a 3-pointer and Lindsey Motyka followed with an 18-footer and the Lady Knights were up 39-31 at the end of the quarter.

Ironton visits Rock Hill on Thursday.
