Lady Panthers fall in 2OT; Lady Dragons win

PROCTORVILLE — It was a game and half. Literally.
The Alexander Lady Spartans edged the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 70-64 in double overtime Saturday at the Tri-State Hoops Throwdown at Fairland High School.
Alexander (11-4) has won four straight and eight of its last nine games. Chesapeake fell to 6-6.
Chesapeake took a 17-8 first quarter lead and it was 31-17 at the half as the Lady Panthers hit 13 of 18 field goal attempts.
Alexander outscored Chesapeake 20-7 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 38-37.
The Lady Spartans took advantage of 27 turnovers by the Lady Panthers to take a 54-52 lead. But Chesapeake’s Sydnee Hall scored with 17 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 54 and force the first overtime.
The Lady Panthers’ Kaylee Curry hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to tie the game at 61 and send the game into a second overtime.
Alexander outscored Chesapeake 9-3 in the second overtime to get the win.
Hall scored 20 points and Curry 19 to lead the Lady Panthers (6-6).
Lala Mace had 19 and Makina Milum 18 for Alexander.

PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Lady Dragons were rude hosts as they beat the Cabell Midland Lady Knights 54-39 on Saturday in their Tri-State Hoops Throwdown showcase.
Caitlyn Stone scored 23 points as Fairland improved to 9-3. Kelsey Riley added 9 points.
Haley Haggerty scored 11 points and Summer Stephenson 10 for the Lady Knights (4-3).
Coming off a hard-fought win over Ironton on Thursday, the Lady Dragons were sluggish in the first half.
They led 17-11 at the end of the first quarter and 25-17 at the half.
Fairland picked up their game in the third quarter by pulling away to a 42-31 lead.
Fairland visits Coal Grove on Monday.
