PEDRO — He’s a Wulf in basketball clothing.
Wulf Goheen took charge in the fourth quarter as the St. Joseph Flyers slipped past the Rock Hill Redmen 46-45 on Friday.
Goheen hit a key 3-pointer and went 4 for 4 at the foul line as the Flyers got the win after squandering an earlier 12-point lead.
“Wulf was huge. He was clutch,” said Flyers’ coach Jeremy Williams. “I told him during a timeout that I want the ball in your hands and he took over from there and made the plays.”
Goheen finished with 15 points and two steals for the Flyers (5-8).
Zac McGraw had 10 points and four rebounds, Troy Scott had four rebounds, three assists and five blocked shots, Zack Kelly had three assists and Chris Lewis four rebounds and three steals.
Rock Hill (4-10) was led by Austin Collins with 20 points, five rebounds and three steals. Jake Falls added 9 points and Trystan Matney had four rebounds.
“All our guys played hard. Zac McGraw did a nice job. Troy only had two points, but he did a good job on Collins. He made him work for his points and he made him put up a lot of shot to get those points,” said Williams.
“But give a lot of credit to Rock Hill. They played hard and they never quit. We’re fortunate to get out of there with a win.”
The Redmen led 11-9 after the first quarter as Collins had 4 points. McGraw scored 5 for the Flyers.
St. Joseph got 6 points from Goheen to take a 23-17 lead. Collins had 5 of Rock Hill’s 6 points in the quarter.
Kyle Williams scored all 6 of his points and McGraw added 5 more as St. Joseph opened up a 12-point lead in the third quarter. Collins had 7 points as the Redmen closed the gap to 36-28 at the end of the quarter.
Falls got 7 points as the Redmen rallied to take the lead, but Goheen’s trifecta with 45 seconds left put the Flyers back in front for good. He then converted his free throws to make it 46-43.
Tanner Martin scored at the buzzer for Rock Hill to set the final score.
