GLENN HAYES, W.Va. — The “D” got an “A” while the “O” got a “C-.”

While the defense got an outstanding grade, the offense managed to get a passing grade. But together, the two facets of the game passed the test as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers beat the Tolsia Lady Rebels 42-21 on Monday.

“Defensively, we played pretty well and we controlled the boards,” said Chesapeake coach Chris Ball.

“Offensively, we shot poorly. They weren’t bad shots, they just wouldn’t fall, but we got enough shots to fall. Tolsia is a well-coached team, so to get a road win is good for us.”

Kaylee Curry had 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals to lead the Lady Panthers (9-7).

Sydnee Hall added 9 points and 6 rebounds while Atiya Spaulding had 6 rebounds.

Tolsia took a 9-5 first quarter lead as Curry scored all of Chesapeake’s points.

Trailing 11-5, Ball called a time out. Upon their return to the court, the Lady Panthers outscored Tolsia 37-10 the rest of the game.

Baylee Mills, Kelsey Huff and Hall scored 4 points each in the second quarter as the Lady Panthers took a 19-15 lead at the half.

Curry had 5 more points in the third quarter as Chesapeake extended the lead to 29-19.

Chesapeake hosts Ironton on Thursday with a two-quarter jayvee game at 6:30 p.m.
