PROCTORVILLE — The big man came up big.

Fairland’s 6-foot-6 freshman center Kollin Van Horn scored a career-high 29 points including 15 of 16 at the foul line as the Fairland Dragons held off the South Point Pointers 64-60 on Tuesday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We didn’t play a great game and we didn’t shoot well, but we made the shots when we needed them,” said Fairland coach Nathan Speed.

“Kollin came up big, especially at the foul line. South Point played hard and gave us some problems. We didn’t have Ty (Staten) or Brandon (Porter), but everyone else stepped up and covered for their absence.”

Isaiah Howell had 12 points and seven rebounds with Chance Short adding 11 points and six rebounds for the Dragons (12-6, 5-4). Van Horn had eight rebounds.

Ryan Gibson had 16 points and six rebounds while Alex Whitt scored 14 points to lead the Pointers (2-14, 1-9). Elijah Adams scored 12 points and Chris Woodard had six rebounds.

“We played right with a team with 11 wins,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “This group can play with any team on our schedule if we do the little things and stay with our game plan.”

The Pointers led 11-10 after the first quarter and Gibson scored 8 pionts in the second quarter to extend the lead to 23-19 at the half.

Van Horn came to life in the third quarter with 16 points including 8 of 8 at the foul line as Fairland rallied to take a 43-39 lead. Brady Rickard scored 7 points for South Point.

Van Horn had 24 of his points in the second half.

In the fourth quarter, Howell had 6 points as he went 4 for 4 at the foul line and Van Horn made all six of his foul shots. Whitt scored 9 points in the quarter for South Point.

On Friday, Fairland visits Portsmouth in a key OVC game while South Point visits East Carter, Ky.
