James Mick

Jan. 19, 1949 — Feb. 3, 2015

 

James L. Mick Sr., 66, of Ironton, passed Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at his residence. The Carmi, Illinois, native was born Jan. 19, 1949, the son of Ruth Ritch Mick, of Ironton, who survives, and the late Wilburn L. Mick.

Mr. Mick was a 1967 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School and of the Freewill Baptist faith. He was a former employee of CSX Railroad and was the retired owner and operator of Jim Mick Trucking. He was a member of the South Point Masonic Lodge No. 497 for 18 years and the El Hasa Shrine in Ashland for 15 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Eva Markel Mick, whom he married June 4, 1971; son, James L. “J.L.” Mick Jr., of Proctorville; daughter, Veronica L. Mick, of Proctorville; and Chloe A. Mick, whom he referred to as “my beautiful little granddaughter.”

Jim was also a former camp host at Lake Vesuvius-Iron Ridge Campground and is survived by his camping family.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home with pastor Paul Bartram and pastor Randy Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with J.L. Mick Jr., Ed Sparks, Gene Barnett, E.J. Markel, Eric Markel, Dave Neal, Mike Carmon, Paul Goodson and Joe Hubbard serving as pallbearers. Wilma Lyall

June 21, 1943 — Feb. 1, 2015

 

Wilma Lyall, 71, of Patriot, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at Arbors at Gallipolis.

She was born June 21, 1943, in Franklin County, a daughter of the late Kenneth Willis and Margaret Collins Freasure. Wilma was married to Irvin Lyall, and he preceded her in death in 2014.

Surviving are two daughters, Angela Caldwell, and her husband, Lee Cordell, and Kelli and her husband, Roy Vance, both of Gallipolis; five grandchildren, Austin, Blaine and Madison Vance, Travis Clonch and Dawn Caldwell; three great-grandchildren, Ondre Newcomb, Layla Hairston and Owen Shortridge; one sister, Mary (Buddy) Marioth; and one brother, Kenny Plakaros.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Duane White in 2004; a granddaughter, Brandi Mannon in 2014; and two sisters, Wanda McCoy and Jean Savoia.

Raphiel Smoot

Raphiel “Ray” Smoot, 75, of Chesapeake, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, at home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home in South Point. Lt. Col. Alice V. Peters, U.S. Army (Ret.), 91, formerly of Coal Grove, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Kingsbrook Life Care Center in Ashland. Arrangements are pending at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville.
