The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers did what they were told and in turn did what they wanted.

Following their coach’s instructions enabled the Lady Tigers to beat the Lewis County Lady Lions 57-47 on Saturday in the Tackett’s Body Shop Shootout.

“I told the girls to keep being aggressive and keep attacking and that’s what Lexie (Barrier) did. That’s just about her being skilled and aggressive,” said Ironton coach Doug Graham.

“I thought Cheyenne (Scott’s) defense was a key. Anderson is a big girl and she can move you down low where she wants, so Cheyenne did a phenomenal job.”

Lexie Barrier led Ironton with a game-high 23 points including 17 in the second half. She also had nine rebounds and three assists.

Cheyenne Scott had 13 points and a pair of steals and was named the team’s game MVP. Sydney Webb added 8 points.

Savannah Anderson scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Lewis County (17-6) while Emily Frye had 9 points and Jaycey Fite 8.

Ironton (14-5) grabbed a 14-10 lead at the end of the first quarter despite 9 points by Anderson.

The Lady Fighting Tigers extended their lead to 29-19 at the half and Barrier went off for 11 points in the third quarter as Ironton made it 46-33.

In the fourth quarter, a 3-pointer by Fite cut the deficit to 50-42 but a runner in the lane by Barrier with 4:30 left put the lead at 52-42.

Anderson made a layup and then Fite hit another 3-pointer with 1:45 to play that cut Ironton’s lead to 52-47.

Lexi Wise was fouled with 1:27 to play and hit both ends of a one-and-one and then a steal by Scott forced Lewis County to foul again.

Scott also hit both free throws and Ironton led 56-47 with 1:09 to go.

Another turnover put Scott back at the line and she made the front end of a one-and-one for a 57-47 lead.

The Lady Lions were guilty of another turnover and Ironton dribbled out the clock.

“I thought the two key moments in the game came when Anderson got her second foul and when they cut the lead to five in the fourth and we responded with a couple of baskets,” said Graham.

Ironton visit Coal Grove on Monday and hosts Boyd County on Thursday for senior night.
