SOUTH POINT — The first half went to Rock Hill and the second half to South Point.

And the game went to…

The South Point Pointers bounced back in the second half and beat the Rock Hill Redmen 38-34 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

The Pointers trailed by 8 points at the half but rallied for the win by outscoring the Redmen 30-18 in the second half.

“We had no intensity the first half, but they responded in the second half,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise. “Our defense picked up and we got some good stops.”

Ryan Gibson had 14 points — all in the second half — to lead the Pointers (3-19, 2-10). Chris Woodard, Brady Rickard and Elijah Adams had 7 points each. Woodard also had eight rebounds and Stephen Wagoner grabbed four.

“Gibson got some good transition looks and took the ball to the basket and got to the foul line,” said Wise.

Rock Hill (6-16, 1-11) was led by Austin Collins with 19 points and nine rebounds. Trystan Matney had eight rebounds.

Collins scored 10 points in the first half as Rock Hill took a 16-8 lead at the break.

Gibson scored 6 points in the third quarter including 4-of-5 at the line as South Point got within 22-21.

Gibson was 4-of-4 from the line and scored 8 points in the fourth quarter as South Point outscored the Redmen 17-12 to get the win.

Both teams play Wednesday in the Division III sectional tournament at Jackson High School. South Point faces Fairland at 6:15 p.m. and Rock Hill plays Coal Grove at 8 p.m.
