Complete effort keys Lady Panthers’ win

GALLIPOLIS — Doing it all made the Chesapeake Lady Panthers a winner-take-all.
Chesapeake played well in all facets of the game as they beat the Gallipolis Blue Angels 5-3 on Monday.
“It was a good win. We got good pitching, good hitting and we played pretty good defense. It’s nice to play a complete game,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.
Gallipolis (1-6) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kendra Barnes tripled and Chelsy Slone singled.
Chesapeake came back to take a 2-1 lead in the second inning.
Melanie Noble reached on a two-base error and Lindsey Davidson had an RBI single. Sydnee Hall was safe on an error and Robin Frye grounded out as the run scored.
The Blue Angels tied the game in the third when Barnes tripled and scored on an error.
The Lady Panthers (3-2) took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth.
Brooke Webb tripled, Laura Rice walked and Kelsey Huff and Noble followed with RBI singles.
Gallipolis cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth when Shelby Long singled, moved up on a ground out an scored on a hit by Jenna Meadows.
Chesapeake got the run back in the seventh when Rice was hit by a pitch, went to second on a ground out and scored on a hit by Noble.
Webb went 3-for-4 with a triple to lead the offense. She also got the win as she struck out five and walked just one.
Noble went 2-4 with an rbi and Davidson was 2-3 with a run batted in.
Barnes was 3-3 with two triples and Meadows was 2-3 for Gallipolis.
The Lady Panthers play at Portsmouth Wednesday, host Ironton St. Joseph on Thursday and visit Rock Hill on Friday.
