St. Joseph tops Rams

RACELAND, Ky. — Consistency is the key.

Tyler Ward had his third straight solid outing as the St. Joseph Flyers beat the Raceland Rams 7-4 on Friday.

Ward got his third straight win as he allowed just four his as he struck out three, walked three and hit a batter.

“Tyler is pretty consistent. He had one bad inning, but other than that he threw strikes,” said Flyers’ coach Brent Wirzfeld. “And we got a lot of contributions from a lot of different people.”

St. Joseph (5-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Daniel Davidson doubled, Tre Neal put down a sacrifice and Cole Willis hit into a fielder choice.

Raceland (6-8) got a run in the second when London Adams was hit by a pitch, stole second, moved up on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.

The Flyers scored four times in the third to take the lead for good.

Bradley Rist walked, Zac McGraw reached on an error and Davidson singled to load the bases.

Willis hit into a fielder’s choice and a throwing error on the play scored the run.

Chris Lewis walked to force home a run, Peyton Adkins hit into a fielder’s choice to drive in a run and an errant pickoff throw scored another run.

The Flyers made it 7-1 with two runs in the fourth.

Jacob Clark and Rist walked, McGraw had a sacrifice bunt, Davidson grounded out to drive in a run and Neal had an RBI single.

The Rams scored three times in the bottom of the inning.

John Cherry walked, Kyle Moore had a sacrifice, and Nathaniel Davidson’s ground out scored a run.

Adams walked, stole second and third and Tyler Morris had an RBI single. He stole second and scored on Kane Snyder’s base hit.

Daniel Davidson was 2-4 and Willis was 1-4 with two RBIs for the Flyers.
