PROCTORVILLE — It might be time to buy some hitting shoes.

The Fairland Lady Dragons couldn’t get timely hits and the Portsmouth Lady Trojans rallied for a 3-2 Ohio Valley Conference win on Monday.

“We have to start hitting the ball better. But their pitcher did a good job mixing up the speed of her pitches,” said Fairland coach Mindy Clark.

The Lady Trojans scored the winning runs in the top of the seventh.

Sharia Kearns walked, Peighton Williams doubled and the tying run scored on a dropped throw. Williams scored on a hit by Rosa Stevens.

Mollie Morris and Caitlin Stone singled to start the bottom of the inning, but a double play and a ground out ended the rally and the game.

Fairland (5-8, 1-6) took a 2-0 lead in the second.

Allison Shepherd walked, Morris doubled her home. Morris went to third on the throw home and scored on an error.

Portsmouth got a run in the fifth when Morgan Reedy doubled, moved up on a passed ball and Williams singled.

Fairland hosts Chesapeake on Tuesday.
