SARDINA — Each time Tyler Ward pitches, the results seem to be a broken record.

The St. Joseph Flyers are more than happy to listen to that song over and over.

Ward pitched a four-hitter as the Flyers beat the Eastern Brown Warriors 4-1 on Monday.

Ward struck out three and walked two in going the distance.

“It was the same old story with Tyler,” said Flyers’ coach Brent Wirzfeld. “he threw strikes and we played good defense behind him. They had only one run and it was unearned.”

The Flyers (7-4) got a run in the first when Daniel Davidson walked, stole second, took third on a ground out and scored on Cole Willis’ ground out.

The lead went to 3-0 in the second inning.

Peyton Adkins and Jacob Clark walked and pulled off a double steal. Chase Walters hit a sacrifice fly for a run and Zac McGraw singled home the second run.

The Warriors scored a run in the fifth, but the Flyers got the run back in the sixth.

Adkins reached on an error, Clark put down a sacrifice, a ground out moved Adkins to third where he scored on a throwing error.

“We did a good job of manufacturing runs,” said Wirzfeld.

Willis, McGraw and Gage Butler each had one of the Flyers’ hits.

The Flyers play Ironton on Thursday at Mike Burcham Field.
