A new shelter was added at the Friends of Ironton Spray Park as the attraction celebrates its fourth year.
“The spray park has been a project of Friends of Ironton that they keep adding on to,” Brett Thomas, Ironton parks and recreation director, said. “The shelter has been planned from the beginning, but it just got built this year. It will be nice for parents to sit in the shade while their children play and cool off.”
The shelter was funded through the city of Ironton allocation funds and cost a total of $8,609. The total amount spent on the park was around $400,000 and was turned over to the city of Ironton to operate after the Friends of Ironton completed it.
Along with the new shelter, the concrete was also resealed to get ready for the summer.
The spray park will open for the Gus Macker basketball tournament this weekend and then close back up until Memorial Day, when it will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Labor Day.
