Karen Childers

Oct. 5, 1941 — Mar. 15, 2015

Karen Mounts Childers, 73, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Lakeland Regional Hospital after an extended illness. Karen was the daughter of the late Mabel Mounts Brown and Herman Mounts.

Karen attended Ironton Schools and graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1959. She was employed by Armco Steel, J.C. Penney Co., and the University of Florida. Karen loved animals, flea marketing and gardening.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Missy Childers Dickess, brothers, Herman Mounts, Jr., Charles Mounts, and sister, Joanna Legg.

She is survived by sons, Doug and Larry (Bobbi) Childers of Plant City, Florida, and Marty Childers of New Port Ritchie, Florida; and one daughter, Cindy Childers and her husband Scott Parramore. Cindy was a devoted and loving caretaker for her mother until the end. Karen is survived by brother, Bud (Noni) Mounts of San Antonio, Texas and sister Linda (Bill) McClellan of Ironton.

She has 13 grandchildren, Michelle Kerns, Tabitha (Mike) Chamale, and Erika (Brian) Dunn of Lakeland, Florida, April, Christina, Josh Childers of Coal Grove. Megan Dickess Cox, Jesse Dickess Hall, and Bailey Dickess of Lawrence County. Peyton, Brianna, Leah, and Charlotte Childers of Plant City, Florida; great-grand children, Jordan, Blake, Alanna Barley, Morgan, Kaleb, Aydin Chamale, and Alexis and Zoey Dunn, all of Lakeland, Florida; great great grand children Rowan Cox and Timmy Childers.

She also will be missed dearly by friends, Donna, Dolly, Barta of Lakeland but most of all by “Big Boy,” her much loved dog. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and one special niece, Lisa Fritz.

The family would like to thank Dr. Julio Enriquez and Dr. Greenberg of Brandon, Florida for their wonderful care throughout her illness.

There will be a private service for the family at a later date.

 

 

Lucy Bruce

May 14, 1922— May 14, 2015

Lucy Mae Bruce, born on May 14, 1922, passed away on May 14, 2015. She was blessed to see her 93rd birthday before going home to be with the Lord. Lucy resided in Ironton for 75 years before moving to Springfield to be near her children. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifford Bruce, her parents, Ben and Margaret Call, and her brothers, Frank and Oscar Call, all of Ironton, and her son-in-law Richard Falls of Xenia.

Lucy is survived by a daughter, Wanda Jean Falls, of Xenia; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Emerson and Glenna Bruce, of Springfield and John and Fonda Bruce of South Vienna. Lucy also had 10 grandchildren, 21 one great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was a devout Christian and elder member of Woodland Chapel Church at Ironton. After moving to Springfield in 1996 she attended the First Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed her home, maintaining her yard and flower garden, and sitting on the porch weather permitting. She also enjoyed parties and family get-togethers.

Lucy passed away at Springfield Regional Hospital after living a full life, seeing her family grow, and enjoying the fellowship of many friends over the years.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Woodland Cemetery, 281 Dayton Ave, Xenia, with pastor Paul Santoro officiating. There will be no visitation. Jerry Bryan

Jerry Michael Bryan, 42 of Wurtland, Kentucky, died on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Funeral services will be at Calvary Apostolic Lighthouse, 927 Monroe St. Wurtland, at noon on Wednesday with pastor David Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods, Kentucky.

Betty Filbin

March 9, 1922-March 3, 2015

Betty Lee Filbin, 93, of Hamilton, Indiana, formerly of Ironton, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, in Lakeland Nursing Home, Angola, Indiana.  Mrs. Filbin was born March 9, 1922 a daughter to the late Milton W. and Stella Brewer Roach.  She was preceded in death by her husband John C. Filbin, who passed away Dec. 23, 1986.

Mrs. Filbin was a homemaker.  She enjoyed reading and was a lifelong member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by daughter, Linda (DeVon) Weicht of Hamilton, Indiana; and grandson Kip Weicht .

Katrene McDowell

Katrene C. McDowell, 68, of Flatwoods, Kentucky, died on Thursday, May 14, 2015, at her residence. Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Carman Funeral Home with the Rev. John Noe officiating. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton. Visitation will be on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Christine Fannin

Christine E. (Sanders) Fannin, 82, of South Point, died on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at a local health care facility. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 18, in Woodland Cemetery with pastor Lenny Campbell and the Rev. Jeff Cremeans officiating.

There will be no public visitation and Phillips Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. James Edward Triplett, 59, of Ironton, died on Monday, May 11, 2015, at his residence.
