John Payton

John Nelson Payton, 88, of Ironton, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born July 6, 1926, a son of the late Cos and Oakley Nelson Payton.

John was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran with the Construction Battalion. He retired in 1983 as a truck driver for Schwerman Trucking Co. after 30 years of service and was known on the CB as King Pin. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed cutting grass, spending time outdoors, loved traveling and enjoyed watching his Purple Martin Birds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Brownstead; granddaughter, Lyndi O’Keefe; brother, Roy Payton; and sister, Mildred Bowman.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruthanna Myers Payton, whom he married April 5, 1947; daughter, Vickie Payton, of Ironton; daughter, Bonnie (Jim) O’Keefe, of South Point, daughter, Lorrie (Tim) Mulvaney, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Chris Brownstead, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Heath (Lori) Brownstead, of Ironton, Kellie O’Keefe-Childers, of South Point, Patrick (Heather Lawson) Mulvaney, of Ashland, Kentucky, Justin (Jenna) Mulvaney, of Grayson, Kentucky, and Sarah Mulvaney, of Catlettsburg; 12 great-grandchildren; and brother, Carl Payton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home with the Rev. David Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites by VFW Post 8850 and visitation will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jim O’Keefe, Tim Mulvaney, Patrick Mulvaney, Justin Mulvaney, Heath Brownstead, Chad Childers, Beau Brownstead and honorary pallbearer Chris Brownstead. Betty Neisess

Betty Lou Neisess, 81, of Chesapeake, died Sunday, May 17, 2015, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville. Burial will follow in Forest Memorial Park in Milton, West Virginia. Marilyn Clark

Marilyn Jean Clark, 78, of Proctorville, died Saturday, May 16, 2015, at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home in Proctorville.
