We have all likely seen or heard, some firsthand, the stranglehold opioids have on an individual or family.

However, various Lawrence County law enforcement agencies will have another tool to use against the epidemic that is increasing throughout the county and region.

Thanks to a partnership with King’s Daughters Medical Center, those agencies will have naloxone to use when encountering an emergency situation involving opioid overdoses.

We applaud the efforts of all involved to bolster potential measures, as this has become a serious problem that will take a united effort to alleviate.

In some instances, law enforcement will be the first on the scene where an overdose may occur. It is important that those officers have the necessary medication and knowledge to help those who are in a difficult situation.

Additionally, it is important for multiple agencies to work together toward a common goal if we are ever going to halt this rising problem.

Will there ever be a time where we see these types of issues completely eradicated? Unfortunately, probably not. But these are definitely steps in the right direction.
