camp set for June

The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers’ basketball camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, June 8-11, at the Ironton High School Sports Center.

The camp is open to any girls in the Tri-State entering grades 3-9 for the fall of 2015.

Fee is $25 and each camper receives a cold beverage each day and a T-shirt at the end of the camp.

Camp registration forms are available on the Ironton City School’s website TigerTown.com or at any of the schools.

Ironton hosting U.S.

Baseball Academy

Ironton High School will host a U.S. Baseball Academy Monday through Thursday, June 8-11, at the high school field.

Sessions are for grades 1-thru-12 with instruction for as low as $99. Each session is 90 minutes.

U.S. Baseball Academy has the national largest training program. Local site director is Larry Goodwin, head coach at Ironton High School.

There is a low player-to-coach ratio. The academy provides young players with advanced hitting, pitching, fielding, catching and baserunning training programs and instruction by some of the area’s best coaches.

Hornets’ boys hoops

camp May 26-29

The Coal Grove Hustlin’ Hornets boys’ basketball camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 26-29 at the high school for any boys entering grades 1-8.

VFW 6878 to host

golf tournament

The VFW Post 6878 will host its annual 4-man golf scramble on Tuesday, June 2, at Silo Golf Course in Lavalette, W.Va.

The 8 a.m. shotgun start has a $50 entery fee for each person. Picnic lunch will be provided by the Wedge Restaurant. All proceeds will support the VFW 6878 activities. for disabled and distressed local veterans and post and memorial operational expenses.

Lots of prizes and trophies will be awarded. Rain date is June 4.

SV girls’ basketball

hosts golf scramble

The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings girls’ basketball team will host a gofl scramble on Sunday, May 31, at the Oaks Golf Club.

The tournament begins at 1 p.m. Food will be provided with prizes awarded for first place, second place and closest to the pin.

Fee is $55 per person.

Cave Run Kids’ Fishing Derby set

The Cave Run Kids’ Fishing Derby for youths ages 1-15 will be held beginning Saturday, June 6, at Minor E. Clark Fish Hatchery on Kentucky Highway 801 South.

Registration begins at 6 a.m. with fishing from 7-11 a.m. There will be three ponds. No fishing license is required. Every child receives a goody bag and a free T-shirt.

Youths should bring a fishing rod, tackle and a cooler for keeping their fish catch fresh along with lawn chairs to sit on.

The three ponds are stocked with large numbers of rainbow trout, channel catfish and largemouth bass. A variety of baits will be provided and there will be a limited number of fishing poles available for children who need to borrow one.

Volunteers will be on hand to clean and filet each child’s catch at no charge and there will be free food, games, displays and prizes.

FMS CheerFest

planned June 15-17

The Fairland Middle School Summer CheerFest will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 15-17 at Jim Mayo Football Stadium. The camp is open to students entering grades 1-6.

Registration fee is $30 per cheerleaders and $50 for siblings if registered in pairs. Camp fee includes T-shirt.

Participants will learn sidelines, floor cheers and a group dance. They will also tumble and stunt among other activities. Prizes will be awarded each day.

Cheerleaders participating are invited to cheer along side of the middle school cheerleaders on Sept. 24 during the first quarter of the Fairland vs. Ironton game.
