Doris Bill

April 3, 1923—May 23, 2015

Doris Margaret Bill, 92 of Bradford, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015, at the Versailles Health Care Center. Doris was born in Wayne County, on April 3, 1923, to the (late) Carl & Augusta (Matty) Marti. She was a retired school teacher from Mount Vernon School District; and a member of the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Mount Vernon. Doris taught elementary school for 32 years and was always proud of her students and her profession. One of her favorite sayings was “every student has something to offer and it is your responsibility as a teacher to find out what it is.” Just recently a former student (now retired after a successful career) wrote to Doris and said “It was you who taught me HOW to learn. I will always believe it was that way you were teaching and reaching out to each of us to make sure we understood not just the “how” of learning but also the “why” of learning.”

After her retirement to care for her aging mother, Doris enjoyed playing the role of Mother Goose at school events and sharing those stories. She also enjoyed volunteering in local nursing homes. Doris loved art, poetry, stamp collecting, traveling and spending time with her family especially the grandchildren.
