Each year the Lawrence County Democratic Party hosts a picnic for its members.

This year, the party is giving back to the community and those who serve and protect it.

On June 18, the Democratic party will host its inaugural First Responders Honorary Picnic at the Sybene Senior Center.

“It is sponsored by the Democratic party, but it is nonpartisan,” said J.T. Holt, vice chair of the organization. “We wanted to do something that was nice for the community.”

All members of the sheriff’s office and any county police agencies are invited, as well as all fire departments and public and private EMS workers. The public is also invited.

The picnic will be from 6-8 p.m. and there will be a cookout and games, such as corn hole. Food will be provided, but guests can bring a dessert and are asked to bring lawn chairs.

“This is something in their honor to show the community’s appreciation,” Holt said.

Anyone who wants to help volunteer at the picnic is asked to contact Holt at 740-533-0163.
