As the temperatures heat up, vendors at the Ironton Farmers Market expect to see their own gardens ready to harvest in the next few weeks.

“I’ll be seeing zucchini and squash in two to three weeks,” Cathy Knipp said.

Knipp and her sister, Tammy Hanshaw, are veterans at the market bringing their produce since it began three years ago.

“We’ll also have leaf lettuce and green onions soon,” Knipp said. “And the first strawberries are already coming on.”

Becky Wiseman, another regular vendor at the market, brought on Saturday baskets from her strawberry crop. By 10:30 that morning she was already sold out. Wiseman is known for her sweet breads and homemade jams and jellies.

Knipp also expects to have some rhubarb in the new future and small new potatoes in early June. She cites the weather as the cause for the delay.

“It was a late year for everybody,” Knipp said.

The season appears to be starting out well, she said.

“We are doing pretty good,” she said. “People are finding us.”
