Garnet Addis

Garnet Davidson Addis, 93, of Ironton, was welcomed into Heaven by her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, May 29, 2015. Mrs. Addis was born Feb. 4, 1922, in Pedro, the daughter of the late John F. Kelley and Rosa Loper Kelley.

Mrs. Addis was a graduate of Pedro High School with the Class of 1940, a past Avon representative, a member of the former Christ United Methodist Church, attended the First Church of the Nazarene and was a long-time member of the Ironton Garden Club. She was known by all for her love and knowledge of flowers. She had resided at King’s Daughters and Sons for Senior Living for the past three years.

Garnet was our most amazing and loving mother, special Grammy and was truly a loyal friend to everyone who knew her. Her walk with Jesus Christ and loving her family was what her life was all about.

She was preceded in death by her only son, Kevin William Davidson, and by her first husband and the father of her children, William F. Davidson. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Berkley Addis. In addition, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Avanelle Jones, Geraldine Dewitz and Mescal Staton; and her brother, George Kelley. In July of 2014, she was preceded in death by her only granddaughter, Stacy Ruth Varney.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Winston (Bob) Varney, of Palmetto, Florida; and daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Robert Meyers, of Ironton; and stepson and his wife, Ronald and Sylvia Addis, of Roanoke, Virginia.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Gregory (JoAnn) Varney, of Northfield, Minnesota, pastor Kevin (Jennifer) Meyers, of Hilliard, William Bradford (Jessica) Varney, of Ashland, Kyle Patrick (Kelsie) Meyers, of Columbus, and Dan Bean, of Huntington. Also she is survived by two step-granddaughters, Kathy Walls and Linda Hopkins, of Roanoke.

She is survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Austin Lotspeich, of Wheelersburg, Will and Jasmine Meyers, of Hilliard, Canaan, Magnolia, Francis and Marion Louise Meyers, of Columbus, Madison Davidson of Ashland, and Olivia, Camden and Garrett Burns of Lonsdale, Minnesota.

She is also survived by one step-great-granddaughter, Amanda Walls. She also leaves behind two nieces and two nephews.

Pallbearers are Kyle Meyers, Austin Lotspeich, Gregory Varney, Brad Varney, Steve Jones and Alan Moore. Honorary Pallbearers are Keith Dewitz, Will Robert Meyers and Canaan Willoughby Meyers.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tracy Brammer Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Meyers and Pastor Rob Hale officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Kathleen Tompkins

Kathleen S. Tompkins, 66, of Riverside, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2015, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 18, 1948, in Ironton, to the late William and Lyndall (Cox) Rapp. Kathy was preceded in death by her brother, Rusty Rapp; and aunt, Carolyn.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Tompkins; children, Summer, Jack and Charles Rapp and his daughter, Tara; stepchildren, Harry (Lisa) Tompkins II and Erick (Carey) Tompkins; siblings, Dan Rapp, Tim Rapp and Larry Rapp; numerous surviving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Kathy earned a doctorate in psychology from Wright State University and was a practicing psychologist with United Health Care. She was an avid golfer and bowler. Kathy loved her family and friends unconditionally and will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.

She is healed, free and at peace. We are sure she has joined her mother, Carolyn and Peggy Crowe in a fierce game of Boggle.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road. Family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until time of service. Harold Demus

The Rev. Harold (Hal) J. Demus, 93, of Bristol Village, Waverly, died Monday, May 25, 2015. Preceded in death by wife Margaret (Johnson) in 2005, the Rev. Demus is survived by six children, Faith Clark, of Waukegan, Illinois, James (Lynette) Demus, of Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Suzanne Volk, of Indianapolis, Indiana, Catherine (Scott) Nass, of Burnsville, Minnesota, Paul Demus, of Hilliard, and Margaret Rae, of South Point. In addition the Rev. Demus leaves nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pastor Demus loved serving the Lord through parish ministry and music. He pastored the following churches in Illinois: Kishwaukee Presbyterian Church, Evergreen Park Presbyterian Church, and First Presbyterian Church of Harvard. In Ohio he served Alexander Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Church of Ironton.

Harold preached his first formal sermon at age 12 and retired from parish ministry at age 84. Upon retiring from the Ironton church, Rev. Demus continued to serve in a variety of ways at First Presbyterian Church in Waverly and through Bristol Village ministry at the nursing home, in hospice counseling and occasional preaching opportunities.

Loving the worship of God through music, Rev. Demus was noted for the series of hymn themed programs utilizing the BV Choral/Instrumental groups and guest soloists.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, Waverly, with visitation from 9:30-10 a.m. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery in Ironton.

James Miller

James Miller, 92, of Ironton, died Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Arrangements are pending at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home.
