Local students to participate in Buckeye Boys, Girls State

Four local high school students have been chosen by American Legion Post 433 to participate in the American Legion Buckeye Boys State and Girls State.

Benjamin Bealy from Fairland, Logan Zerkle from Dawson-Bryant and Alyssa Miller and Emma Saxby from St. Joseph will participate in the intensive education program on Ohio government.

Participants will become part of a mythical 51st state local, county and state government and are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. The training is objective, practical and non-partisan with city, county and state government operated by students elected to various offices.

Legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band and recreation are some of the activities participants will take part in.

This year, Buckeye Boys State is from June 14-21 at Bowling Green State University while Buckeye Girls State will be June 14-20 at the University of Mount Union in Alliance.
