Many of us will never know what it’s like to go hungry.

Unfortunately, there are people right here in Lawrence County who know that struggle all too well. Sadly, many of those people are young children.

When school is in session, children can count on at least one hot meal a day and sometimes a breakfast to start the day. But when summer vacation rolls around, that supply is cut off for children who live in poverty.

If it were not for the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization teaming up with the Ohio Department of Education, who knows if these children would have proper meals throughout the summer.

If you or someone you know has a school-aged child who needs lunches throughout the summer, there are multiple sites throughout the county that are hosting the meals free of charge.

Meals will be provided at Lawrence Village Apartments, Ironton Middle School, Ironton High School, Ironton Metropolitan Housing Authority, First Baptist Church in Ironton, Collins Career Center, Chesapeake United Methodist Church, Burlington Commons Park, Storm Creek Apartments and Rock Hill Schools. Ironton Middle will also serve breakfast.

It is extremely important that everyone helps spread the word about this program. No child should have to go hungry for reasons that are beyond his or her control.
