Soil and water district to host conservation field day

WILLOW WOOD — The Lawrence Soil and Water Conservation District and Ohio State University Extension will host a Conservation Field Day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Friday.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Jim Herrell Farm near the SWCD office at 5459 State Route 217, Willow Wood. The event is open to children ages 7-11. The field day will teach children about 4-H and conservation.

4-H is not all about taking farm animals to the fair. It also includes many other projects such as clothing, cake decorating, photography, food and nutrition, scrapbooking, gardening and plant science, the natural world, woodworking, tractors and more.

The children will participate in a variety of outdoor activities such as a nature hike, fishing, ATV safety, archery, Pet Pals and sun safety. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Children should dress accordingly as they will be out in the elements most of the day. They may need items such as insect repellant, sunscreen, long pants, tennis shoes or boots (no open toed shoes) and hats.

There is a $10 registration fee. Payment can be cash, check, or money order made payable to Lawrence SWCD. A registration form and release form are required for each attendee. Parents/guardians can attend with their children for an additional $5. All forms and payment should be received at the SWCD office no later than Wednesday.

Parents/guardians are responsible for transportation of children to and from the soil and water office. The children will be taken from the SWCD office to the farm by tractor and wagon. There will be no other transportation provided by the SWCD or OSUE.
