Ironton in Bloom (IIB) will have its first of a series of themed fests Saturday with the Strawberry Fest at the farmers market from 8 a.m.-noon.

“This is part of Ironton in Bloom’s support for the farmers market,” Carol Allen, IIB president, said. “On the second Saturday of each month we go to the farmers market and organize and prepare food to give away to the public in hope that this will get people to come down and enjoy the family experience.”

The festival will feature strawberry shortcakes as Allen said that IIB will have an oven there to bake the biscuits used for the cakes, although this year purchased strawberries will be used due to the weather this year.

“We put a tip jar out, but we give those away at no cost,” Allen said. “This isn’t a money maker for us, just to support the farmers market and make it a family event for people to enjoy.”

Allen said upcoming IIB farmers market festivals will feature watermelon, corn, tomatoes and apples.
