OHSAA releases division, region playoff assignments

Now that everyone knows where they will start, it’s up to them where they will finish.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the 2015 football division and region assignments based on male enrollment numbers for grades 9-11 as of October 2014.

Schools with an enrollment of 627 or more boys are Division I and total 72 schools. There are 107 schools in Division II that will consist of 423 to 626 boys.

Division III has 107 schools with enrollments of 271-422, Division IV has 107 schools with enrollments of 201 to 270, Division V has a total of 108 schools with enrollment figures of 150 to 200, Division VI is 107 schools with 107 to 149 boys and Division VII is for schools with 106 boys or less and has a total of 106 schools.

The playoffs begin on Friday, Nov. 6, with Division s II, III V and VII. Games will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Divisions I, IV, VI will play on Saturdays with kickoff at 7 p.m.

The state finals will again be held at Ohio Stadium in Columbus Dec. 3-4-5. One division will play its state title game on Dec. 3 Three divisions will play on Dec. 4 and the final three divisions on Dec. 5.

The schedule of divisions and their playoff dates will be announced at a later date.

Area teams in Region 17 of Division V include Ironton, South Point, Fairland and Rock Hill.

Other teams in Region 17 are Albany Alexander, Martins Ferry, Liberty Union, River Valley, Portsmouth, Portsmouth West, Northwest, Oak Hill, Amanda Clearcreek, Minford, Utica, Northridge, West Muskingum, Sugarcreek Garaway, Tuscarawas Valley, Richmond Edison , Buckeye Local, Union Local, West Lafayette Ridgewood, Liberty Union, Harrison Central and Wheelersburg.

Local teams in Region 21 of Division VI are Coal Grove and Chesapeake.

Also in the Region 21 are Federal Hocking, Bellaire, Barnesville, Berne Union, Columbus Academy, Bishop Ready, Fredericktown, East Knock, Centerburg, West Jefferson, Marion Elgin, Woodsfield Monroe, Hannibal River, Northmor, Cardington, Crooksville, Southeastern Ross, Adena, Huntington Ross, Paint Valley, Lucasville Valley, Fairbanks and Fort Frye.

Symmes Valley and Green are in Region 25 of Division VII.

The remainder of Region 25 includes Portsmouth Notre Dame, Sciotoville East, Trimble, Shadyside, Bridgeport, Bellaire St. John, Millersport, Fisher Catholic, Fairfield Christian, South Gallia, Buckeye Trail, Danville, Newark Catholic, Racine Southern, Reedsville Eastern, Bishop Rosecrans, Caldwell, Shenandoah, Miller, Strasburg Franklin, Frontier, Tuscarawas Catholic, Belpre and Waterford.

Southeast Ohio teams in Division IV include Gallipolis, Meigs and Washington Court House. Schools in Division III are Athens, Jackson, Miami Trace, Hillsboro, Chillicothe, Vincent Warrant and Marietta. Logan and Zanesville are in Division II.
