An Ironton woman is behind bars following an anonymous call to the county jail that she was going to sneak drugs to an inmate.

According to a report from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, deputy Courtany Boyer received the anonymous tip on Sunday that a woman was going to bring Suboxone to an inmate, which would be hidden in her rings.

The woman, identified as Michelle Crank, 31, of 2163 County Road 22, arrived at the jail shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Boyer asked the woman to remove her jewelry before the visitation.

“When asked to removed the jewelry she seemed upset and said ‘you guys never made me do this before,’” according to the report.

While Crank was visiting the inmate, another deputy searched her jewelry and allegedly found Suboxone taped to the underside of her watch, which was photographed and bagged as evidence.

Crank was arrested 15 minutes later after the visitation ended and charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drugs and illegal conveyance of a drug into a jail facility.

“When questioned she admitted that she did bring the Suboxone into the jail for (inmate) and she had planned to slip it into his cell,” according to the report.

According to another report by detective Jason Newman, the woman claimed her boyfriend asked her to bring the drugs in because he had no money and could sell it for $100.

Crank was arraigned in Ironton Municipal Court on Monday and her bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety. Attorney Gene Meadows was appointed and a preliminary hearing was set for Thursday.
