Hogs steal the show at county fair

ROME TOWNSHIP— The top two hogs were named Tuesday night out of a total of 146 hogs in the 4-H hog show in the county fair livestock arena.
Claiming the title of grand champion was second year 4-Her, 11-year-old Angel Lewis from Willow Wood.
“I’ve never won before so I’m just really happy. I want to thank God and my Uncle Bub,” Lewis said. “I enjoyed playing with them and getting up by them and havingthem run after me.”
Lewis raised two hogs, although only one of them got her the title of grand champion.
Taking second place overall and the title of reserve champion was Kara Saunders, 14, of Kitts Hill. This was Saunders’ second reserve championship award for a hog.
“I liked going out and sitting with them. I would sit with them for hours,” Saunders said.
Saunders said she has been involved with 4-H for six years also has grand and reserve championships for lambs under her belt.
Prior to the grand championship round, there were 16 classes of hogs where the first and second place winners of each were up for the overall titles.
Winning first place in classes 1-16, respectively, were Wyatt Owens, Ethan Patterson, Kaitlyn Payne, Levi Best, Hannah Gates, Brandon Blair, Angel Lewis, Jimmy Stewart, Brandon Blair, Hunter Humphries, Jenna Malone, Molly Saunders, Markia Norris, Kara Saunders, Angel Lewis and Evan McMackin.
Second place winners in classes 1-16 were Curtis Lybrand, Levi Best, Meredith Humphreys, Jacob Johnson, Haley Litton, Wyatt Owens, Travis Gates, Joshua Saunders, Wyatt Collier, Kylie Guy, Hannah Gates, Kylie Guy, Travis Gates, Jenna Malone, Morgan Harper and Tiara Hatfield respectively.
Taking home third place in classes 1-16 respectively were Katie Haynes, Derron Owens, Haley Litton, Gregory Shope, Kaitlyn Payne, Madison McNeely, Meredith Humphreys, Hailee Beckett, Markia Norris, Hannah Maynard, Josh Dial, Joshua Saunders, Kara Saunders, Jonah Graybeal, Tiara Hatfield and David Malone.
