ROME TOWNSHIP — Kaylee, Uriah and Enola Cade each took first place in three out of four market steer classes Wednesday evening at the county fair to compete for the title of grand champion.

The first place winners of each class went on to show off their steers in hopes to be named the grand champion or reserve champion with the remaining first place winners and second place winners of each class competing for a top 10 place.

“My favorite part about raising him was the relationship that was built,” Kaylee Cade said. “Being the grand champion is the recognition for all the hard work that’s been done.”

Kaylee, 13, is from Waterloo and said she has been in 4-H for five years.

“It was stressful because I didn’t know for sure I was going to win,” Kaylee said about going against her brother and sister for the top prize. “But it was also a lot of fun because I got to compete against them.”

Karsyn Ball, 13, from Kitts Hill, took first place for her steer in the other market steer class, and went on to become reserve champion overall.

“This steer made me work hard,” Ball said. “Winning reserve champion shows what I worked for.”

Kaylee Cade took first place in class 1, Uriah Cade took first place in class 2, Ball claimed first in class 3 and Enola Cade in class 4.

Second place winners were Jack Leith in class 1, although his sister Cassie Leith showed for him, Matison Klaiber in class 2, Brenna Morris in class 3 and Teddilyn Craft in class 4.

Third place winners in each class were Maddy Needs in class 1, Ann-Michal Dyer in class 2, Noah Lambert in class 3 and Faith Lambert in class 4.

Judging the shows were Aaron Arnett and Ian Van Kirk from Select Sires Beef of Marysville.
