Shawn Scherer

Shawn X. Scherer, 60, of Norcross, Georgia, died peacefully in his sleep Friday, July 17, 2015. Born and raised in Ironton, Shawn was a passionate Ohio State Buckeyes fan and had the pleasure of watching them win the national championship this year. Shawn became an avid golfer while living in South Florida for 21 years and played with the Hard Labor crew and with his wife regularly.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ellen Scherer; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Cathy Scherer; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Stephanie and Woody Hall, Shala and Chris Black. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Diabetes Association and/or St. Joseph Catholic School in Ironton.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday with the family receiving friends beginning at 10 at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road., NE, Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Clifford Neville

Clifford Edward “Eddie” Neville, 83, of Ironton, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015, at his residence. The Coal Grove native was born Jan. 12, 1932, a son to the late Roy H. and Shirley (Rawlins) Neville. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Marlene (Molter) Neville, whom he married March 29, 1956.

Mr. Neville was a 1949 graduate of Coal Grove High School and a 1957 graduate of Ohio University in Athens and Syracuse University in New York. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was a retired teacher from Ironton City Schools and a former pastor of Symmes Creek Baptist Church, Aid, Eden Park Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and Central Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and was a member of Ironton First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant daughter, Cynthia Neville; brother, Robert Neville; and sister, Betty Hixon.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Tammy (Mark) Fairchild, of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Eddie (Erin) Neville, of Columbus; two granddaughters Cindy (John Thomas) Eldridge, of Lexington, Kentucky, and Camryn Neville, of Columbus; great-grandson, Brody Eldridge of Lexington, Kentucky; great-granddaughter, Greenleigh Eldridge, of Lexington, Kentucky; sister, Maxine Sparks, of Ironton; and sister-in-law, Esther Neville, of Coal Grove.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 8850. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. Robert Watts

Robert Sherman Watts, 68, of Proctorville, died Monday, July 20, 2015, at the VA Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Joy Darlene Koehler Watts. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar, West Virginia. Jo Ann Barber

Jo Ann Gillum-Barber, 84 of Wurtland, Kentucky, died on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Wurtland Church of God with pastor Henry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow at the Rude Cemetery. Joyce Hazelett

Joyce Ann White Hazelett, 59, of Welch, West Virginia, formerly of Huntington, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, in Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Schneider-Griffin Funeral Home. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Ben Whitt

Ben Alley Whitt, 78, died on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at his home in Proctorville. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Whitt. There will be no services at Ben’s request.
